A dynamic and content-managed Flash based website

The Brief

With some hot design by The Design Corporation, we were asked to develop a dynamic Flash based website that would showcase all their top work, and give them the facility to update and maintain the content whenever they wanted.

The Solution

The first part of the project was to set up the Vertigo CMS and to create the Flash files that would work together to deliver the menu, the content and the homepage animation.

The opening image needed to be animated, so all of its elements were separated and put into Flash. It also had to load and animate relatively quickly, so steps were taken to keep file sizes and timing as small as possible. Various transistions and masks were used to reveal all the different parts. The spray can was given a boost by animating it shaking and spraying ink - with sound effects!

The Flash content was brought to life by implementing a set of ActionScript classes which we had developed to parse the XML data generated by Vertigo. Exported content images are also dynamically loaded into the Flash movies. The end result is flashy website that also allows the Design Corporation to add and update any of the website content without needing to edit Flash source files.

“...a new design4music site that is clear, fast and very easy to navigate.”

Happily, the client really liked the end result - especially being able to update the content at anytime which meant they didn't need to have any knowledge of Flash or other types of code.

Client Testimonial

“Substance understood exactly what we wanted and worked with our designers to create a new design4music site that is clear, fast and very easy to navigate.

Due to their new 'Vertigo' website management system software we can now make changes ourselves and edit our website as and when we need to.

A very professional and slick service.”
