A flash-based minisite for the Commandos computer games
The Brief
To showcase all the information and imagery about the two Commandos games that make up the Battle Pack, in an entertaining and informative way.
The Solution
Due to the character driven and film-like nature of the computer game, the minisite had to compliment existing styles and designs. The idea was to place the content in a book - styled to look and feel like wartime documents - and as screen real-estate was tight a tab system was included to save space and enable navigation through the site.
Four separate areas were made: Game Features; Characters; War Room and Goodies. These would each contain various types of content, like screenshots, videos and desktop wallpapers.
An interesting challenge was making the interactive walkthrough guide. The guide is intended to help new players work their way through the first level of the game, providing them with the knowledge to then take on the rest of the adventure.
Carrying on the theme of wartime spy photos and documents, the walkthrough took the form of static screenshots of the game with animated directions and comments highlighted on top. A user is given the freedom to 'walkthrough' the guide at their own speed and even re-visit sections that they may have forgotten.
The finished minisite provides users with a interesting view of the pack and its two games, giving a strong visual take on what the games have to offer. It compliments the level of detail present in the artwork, story and characters of the games and really helps to sell it to any prospective buyers.
